This last week has crazy. Good but crazy. I have taken a few days to spend with friends while also preparing for our mission trip and then I begin my new job upon our return. So I have felt I have been going in circles and not making any progress? At least not the kind of progress I expected. Have you ever felt that way? (Please tell me I am not alone.)
Do the never ending appeals of the world tug at you? Do they pull you in a million different ways, causing you to question where you are and where you are headed?
We all have plans and dreams we want to fulfill. But the whirlwind of life can be so overwhelming and confusing at times. Most days it may seem like we are just able to keep our head above the water.
Too many decisions.
There have been days I’ve felt like one foot was firmly planted in the ground, while my other foot scurried in every direction. Expending a lot of energy and mental fatigue, but going nowhere. Can you relate?
How awesome would it be to wake up every morning and have confirmation that the steps you are taking are leading you down the right path? To know with certainty that you’re headed in the right direction? To have full confidence in each step, without constantly questioning yourself?
So many times I’ve second-guessed a decision when just yesterday I was confident about. My desire is to follow God’s will. I pray, yet I still feel uncertain, not wanting to make a wrong move. That uncertainty leaves me I wondering: Maybe this isn’t what I’m supposed to be doing. Maybe this isn’t part of God’s plan for my life.
In my wrestling with indecision and insecurity, I’ve sought God’s Word for help. A few days ago, in my studying I came across a priceless nugget of truth in the Bible. It addresses our desire for guidance and reveals to us what to do when we need clear direction.
“Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you” (Psalm 25:4-5).
These verses show how humble David was and how he had a teachable heart. David desired to have God guide him in his walk. David knew God as his Savior and placed his complete hope in the One who created the right path for him.
If you continue to read David’s heart in this Psalms, you find the answers to David’s request for guidance. These promises are ones we can also claim for ourselves:
“The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands” (Psalm 25:8-10, NLT).
Once we humble our hearts and begin to truly seek God’s will, then we can be confident of this:
- God will always show us what is right for us.
- If/when we become sidetracked, God will point us back to the right path.
- We are never alone as we take steps. God is always there to leads and teaches each day.
- God leads those who obey Him with unfailing love and faithfulness.
When you become unsure about thing, let your head spin trying figure it out on your own. Humble your heart before Him, and then ask Him to lead you. However, just asking is not enough. You must trust that God is directing you even if you can’t see His plan.
We all tend to step off onto the wrong path at a time. When that happens seek God for direction instead of looking to the world for answers. When you take steps to follow and obey God’s voice, He will lovingly welcome you back and point you in the right direction.
Today I am asking the Lord to etch these verses onto my heart and mind. I want to always have them with me — especially on days when I feel like I’m going in circles and lacking direction.
Today, I’m praying these verses over you, too.
